Web site help

In this section you can find information about how to use the Equal Web site and its resources. If you have any suggestions for additions to the information provided, please get in touch.

How to get around: navigation

There are several ways to navigate around the site. The main navigation options:

DP resources | Diary | Support… etc.

are always found in the tabs under the top banner. For users of screen readers and other serial browsers, ‘skip to navigation’ links (access key S) are provided to allow visitors to bypass the content and go straight to the navigation.

The footer contains links to important pages about the site itself, such as the terms and conditions, accessibility statement, contact form and site map, as well as this page. The Equal logo at the top is also a link back to the home page.

The column on the right features links to items related to the content of a particular page.

No links to content on the site use the javascript: pseudo protocol and no links will open in new windows—your Back button will always work.

How to find what you’re looking for: search

In addition to using aids like the site map, many people like to be able to search directly for a particular item or keyword. The Equal site offers a link to the search facility on every page. The facility searches for the item in the <meta> tag information in each page, plus the entire textual content of the site. It does not search through documents and files available for download, nor the DPs database. After an initial search is made, the results page offers a number of options for you to refine your search, allowing you to search, for example, for an exact phrase.

Searching the DP database

The Development Partnerships database can be searched by theme, geographical area of operation and keyword. Results are displayed by theme and contain links to project summaries of individual DPs and contact details for the lead partner in each DP.

Downloadable resources

All downloadable documents and resources can be easily accessed from the Resources section. However, operational documents for DPs are subject to a username and password and can be accessed from the secure section of this Web site. Some files relating to specific themes can also be found in the relevant thematic area.

Downloading files

Downloads are handled by a small application that lets you download files direct to your computer, rather than open them in the browser window (often the default behaviour). This is done to mimimise the time you spend waiting for a file to download and gives you the opportunity to continue exploring the site while a file is downloaded. Some files contain macros and must be downloaded and saved correctly to retain their functionality. If you experience any difficulties with downloading files, please contact the Support Unit.

Accessibility features

The Equal site has been designed with accessibility in mind, incorporating a number of features to enhance the accessibility, compatibility and interoperability of the site’s content. These include:

  • valid, semantic, structural markup
  • access keys
  • text alternatives for images
  • proper labelling of form elements

For details of the full range of features, please read the accessibility statement.
