How is Equal administered in the United Kingdom?

Equal is monitored and co-ordinated through a Great Britain Monitoring Committee. The programme in Scotland and Wales has additional Management Committees which are represented on the GB Monitoring Committee and which manage accordingly the Scottish and Welsh allocations of the Great Britain budget in those countries.
Around 9% of the Great Britain allocation of funds for Equal is the responsibility of the Scottish Executive and around 6%, the National Assembly for Wales.
Northern Ireland has a separate allocation of funds to operate its own programme independently but joins with Great Britain to participate in the asylum seeker strand of the programme. This strand operates on a UK-basis and is allocated funding equal to 5% of the Great Britain budget.
Great Britain Monitoring Committee
A GB Monitoring Committee (GBMC) for Equal oversees strategy, policy, monitoring and evaluation. It also agrees the broad framework for the selection of Development Partnerships, the role of the Thematic Networking Groups and agrees and oversees Britain-wide publicity, dissemination and evaluation strategies.
A representative of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) chairs the GBMC for Equal and the Committee is assisted by a permanent secretariat. DWP is the managing authority for Equal in Great Britain but delegates specific functions to the National Assembly for Wales and the Scottish Executive.
This Web site aims to provide the latest information on the Equal programme, the official Community Initiative Programme (CIP) document approved by the European Commission, and a range of other supporting documentation of interest to DPs. It will continue to develop over the course of the programme.
